So recently my fps in GTA 5 has been terrible. I've had this computer built for about 2 months now and up until a few days ago, everything ran great. I was running GTA 5 on higher settings and getting anywhere from 50-80 fps on average. However, all of a sudden, GTA now gets 20-35 fps with all settings on normal. I have not encountered any fps drops in any other game however.
If anyone knows as to why this would happen just all of a sudden, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

My Setup:
CPU- AMD FX-8320 8 Core
16 GB Ram
GPU- Nvidia GTX 960
PSU- Corsair CX750M

Hi Martzip,

Sometimes this can be caused by excessive RAM or CPU usage in the background. Have you restarted your computer since you started experiencing the lag? Try pressing Ctrl + Shift + Escape and checking the CPU and RAM usage, if the usage is above ~50% on either of them (without the game running) click the processes tab and click where it says "Memory", (should order from the Memory-Hogging programs to the Non-Memory-Hogging programs), and close the programs consuming the most CPU / Memory usage.

Start the game and hopefully you should see an increase in performance. Let me know how it goes.

All the best.

Hello,
I have restarted my computer numerous times and nothing has worked. Since posting this I have tried quite a few things to try to help. I have overclocked my cpu to 4.0 GHz and had no effect on my fps. I have looked at cpu and gpu temps while playing, the GPU gets less than 50 C and the CPU gets less than 60 C. As far as memory, CPU, and GPU usage, memory never breaks 50% while running GTA 5 and CPU usage is about 50% and GPU usage is only 30%.
Also one other thing that is happening is that I get very stable 60 fps while standing still in GTA, however, while driving around, it drops to about 10 or lower.

Hello,
I updated my drivers to the most recent on nvidias website for the GTX 960 (361.43) yesterday and it did not help.
I did have a computer crash a couple days ago as well. Could that cause some files for the game to be corrupted? I'm using a Samsung 250gb ssd. If you guys think it would be good to reinstall it, let me know but I really dont want to because its 65gb lol.
Thanks for the help though.

I was playing on that version of the driver but when I started getting low fps I updated so its not a driver problem.
