I have a XFX R7 240 2GB DDR3 graphics card and I can't get it into the slot to plug in. I don't know all the tech words and wish I could show you pics of what I'm talking about. The casing slots when I line up the graphics card in the back of the computer are in the wrong place. The card wants to insert in a ram slot instead.

Your card should definitely be plugged into a PCI-E slot on the motherboard. Usually this is located below the processor when the computer is standing upright, but it could be in a different location depending on the model of computer you're dealing with. Do you happen to know what the model of your computer is, or at least what brand? Or is it a custom built computer?

From what I can see there are 4 versions of the Optiplex 755: Mini-Tower, "Desktop", Small Form Factor, and Ultra Small Form Factor.

The Mini-Tower version is the only one that can accept regular "full-height" PCIe cards. The "Desktop" and Small Form Factor versions can only accept "Half-height" (sometimes called "Low-profile") graphics cards. The Ultra Small Form Factor cannot use any PCIe cards. Which version of the Optiplex 755 do you have? You could take a picture and post it if you need more help.

Here is the page I used for reference: http://www.dell.com/us/dfb/p/optiplex-755/pd

Oh, haha, I totally missed the title. Yeah, you would need to get a graphics card with a low profile bracket, like larkspur said. I helped out a high school with these before, and you actually can install a third-party gpu, but you will not be able to install a full sized card, or one that requires a supplementary power cable either, since the PSU isn't designed for that. Some lower-end cards will come with both a full-sized bracket and a half-height one. From what I saw on amazon, the XFX R7 240 *should* be able to support a low-profile bracket, but you'll need to check the accessories in the box to see if one is included, if not, you may be able to purchase a bracket separately, just make sure you get one that matches the model!

GTX750Ti comes in low profile. Find out if you need EUFI or AHCI BIOS version they come both ways. There are 3 Desktop sizes. DT,SFF, and USFF. The smaller it is the more you have to adapt. It's the fastest card that runs powered only by the PCIe slot. There are other posts on this question with pictures that will help you. Your computer is a BTX so the video card goes in facing away from the other expansion slots. Some times in the smaller sizes an HDD tray is in the way. Laptop HDD, or SSDs can help make room.
