After logging into windows (10) and trying to open up Steam or anything really, my system shuts down suddenly. I was recently at a friends house with my pc today and after i moved it back home this problem has occured. However, I can stay on the login screen indefinitely.
I noticed that everything was loading much slower than usual and I wasn't getting as many frames as I should be when I started to play a game (never got around to playing as the system turned off).
Tried going into BIOS and after a while the system turned off again.
It seems as though when there is ANY load on my hard drive the system shuts down. I am asking here to check if I would need a new HDD or if it may be something else. If I do need a new HDD, is there any way I may be able to get the data off my old one even if its like this?
Parts listed as follows:
CPU: Intel i5 4670k on stock cooler, no overclock
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA Z87X - UD3H
HDD: Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200. 12 SATA3 HDD 64M cache
GPU: Asus direct cu II GTX 970, no overclock
PSU: Seasonic M12II 750 SS-750AM. 80 PLUS bronze

Just to clarify, the problems only started occuring after I had shut down my system, disconnected from the power and reconnected at home. Before this, everything was running perfectly

Wow, smashing things can sometimes fix your problems, haha. Anyways I certainly recommend investing in a better cooler. The stock cooler is unreliable and a poor performer as I am sure you have witnessed. Personally I recommend this cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099. For $30 this is an absolute beast of a cooler. I have an FX 8350 which is infamous for running very warm, but with this cooler i get idle temps of 9° C to 13° C and about...

After a frustrating time I hit the top of my case in anger and my cooler fell off my motherboard. Turns out, the stock cooler was loose on the cpu and it was overheating. Thanks for the help anyway. and remember to always check physically everything is in order.

Highest i've ever seen was 50° C on summer day.
