Hello everyone. I have to choose between FX 8320 vs. i5 4690k for a PC that will used mainly for working: Photoshop/Illustrator/40+ Chrome tabs and some gaming a few times a week, GTA V, NFS Underground 3 and some other racing I guess. ( I will be using either R9 280x or R9 380)

As I don't mind the advantage in 5-10 fps for the games that intel gives, my issue stops at the "multitasking" point.

Will FX 8320 be enough for daily use of Photoshop/Illustrator/40+ Chrome tabs (sometimes even two or three windows of 40+ tabs) simultaneously ? Or should I consider overclocking it ? Or should I consider getting an 4690k ?

Also I would be grateful if someone could recommend me a motherboard, for either cpu, that is stable/good, isn't pricy and allows overclocking (just in case).

**In my part of EU, the difference between the CPUs is about 60-80$, so if the cheaper choice does the job, it would be great. Also I've read somewhere that the 8 core FX, may be a better choice for the future, as the 8 cores will come very handy in a few years. Is this true? I will keep this build for about 5-6 years.

Solution
Chrome in 40+ tabs depends on the ram. I can see you are a power user. You should get at least 16GBs of ram.

Do note that the 8 core cpu is not a real 8 core. Technically it is, but the cores share the resources, meaning it won't offer the same performance as a real 8 core cpu. Don't get me wrong. 8 cores sharing the same resources is still better than 4 cores.

The fx 8320 is better for photoshop for 3d rendering and that kind of stuff, while the i5-4690k will fare much better for gaming. For games like battlefield, which can utilize 8 threads, the fx 8320 will work fine, but in the ones that only make use of 4 cores, the i5 will do better.

Sometimes I wish it would have been porn. Can you please recommend a good/cheap motherboard for the 4690k?

Ehm, let's try it this way:
Are the 80$ more I'm paying for the i5 worth the increase in performance or the longevity of the build, considering I'm on a pretty tight budget ?
