Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone has the same set up or can help:
Short summary:
System intermittently won't POST when RAM configured at anything above 1333Mhz
System Spec:
Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
SanDisk SSD PLUS 240 GB Sata III 2.5-inch Internal SSD up to 520 MB/s
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Lite-On iHAS124-14 DVD/CD Writer
Akasa Interconnect Pro 5.25-Inch USB Front Panel with Card Reader
CiT VANQUISH RED ATX Mid Tower Case
Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
Full Version:
I've just built this PC and all was going well until final steps of upgrading BIOS and tweaking settings.
When I set the RAM to XMP, the system won't POST from 'soft off' three out of four times (approximately) but runs perfectly once it's on and will reboot fine and will boot fine after the PSU has been switched off for 30 seconds. When it won't post, I get fans spinning up and HDMI output (but black screen) but no POST beep.
I'm fairly sure I was running the RAM at 1866Mhz via XMP on BIOS revision F7 without issue but the board won't now let me downgrade to check. Running the RAM at 1333Mhz runs fine and boots every time.
What I've tried:
- Single sticks
- RAM in both pairs of dual channel slots
- Clearing the BIOS and changing only the memory speed settings
- Downgrading to BOIS Revision F8 (won't let me go back to F7) and clearing then changing memory speed settings
- Using XMP Profile 1
- Setting the multiplier to 18.66 manually (XMP off)
- Setting the multiplier to 16 (1600Mhz)
- Setting the multiplier to 20
- Increasing the voltage to 1.54v and 1.56v
As an aside I found a bug in the Gigabyte System Information Viewer ... if you increase the memory allocated for graphics beyond the default 64MB (tried 256MB and 512MB), the System Information Viewer Blue Screens Windows 10!
This feels very much to me like a bug introduced in BIOS revision F8 that now stops Vengeance RAM working at speeds over 1333Mhz but I wonder if anyone has this same board and RAM with F8 or F9 BIOS that can confirm or deny for me please?
Very many thanks in advance and best wishes for the festive period.
Dave
