Please Help, don't want to let my dad down.

I just recently built a computer for my dad and everything turned on installed most of the drivers. I installed Path of Exile and got a few error messages when trying to run. "Could not find any Compatible Direc3D Devices" and "DXUT Create Device Failed" Online forum searches led me to installing the latest graphics card drivers. I tried doing so by going to Intel's website and by using the Nvidia Geforce application that came with my graphics card. Intel's website would recognize I needed drivers. I would try to install them, then they would tell me to restart my computer when finished. Once computer booted back up it would still say they were not installed. When using the Nvidia Geforce application it recommends a driver to install. Then I press install driver and it says downloading driver but it is all zeroed out. 0 downloaded out of 0 driver size at 0KB/sec download speed and just does nothing.

Could I have installed the graphics card incorrectly while building the computer/given it the wrong power cable or something??? I was under the impression that I would not be able to reach my Windows screen If I did that, but who knows. I am running Windows 7 64. When I go to Control panel and device manager under display it reads,

"Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600" In first slot and
"Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" in 2nd."

I have a GeForce GTX960

Any help you can provide would greatly be appreciated. Thanks guys, was really trying to save my dad money by building him a gaming computer so I don't want to be unsuccessful in my attempts.

i would recommend not using auto-update options for system hardware. in my opinion it is better to keep an eye out for the latest drivers from the actual manufacturers yourself and install them yourself.

i would recommend uninstalling everything that has to do with nvidia and the GPU.
then, go to nvidia.com > drivers section > input your hardware > download the latest GeForce package update > install manually.

make sure you have the display's cable going to the graphics card in the PCIe slot and not the motherboard's I/O plate and also that all GPU power cables are attached properly. make sure your motherboard is set to use dedicated graphics(GTX960 / Standard VGA) and not onboard(4600 / Intel HD) through the BIOS.

Okay I will try this, the only thing that trips me out is when I look at the device manage under display it says "Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600. Instead of GeForce GTX960, so it seems like it is not even recognizing the graphics card. But my monitor is plugged into my graphics card, so it definitely works in that regard. So confusing.

yes, should show both available and give the option to choose whether to use onboard or dedicated graphics. though it appears the drivers for your 960 have not installed and/or have not initialized since it is not also listed.

Okay thanks so much, uninstalled anything to do with Nvidia and the GPU. Manually searched the drivers and am downloading the latest version now I think. It is almost done then I will try installing
