Diagnosing a dead computer?

My friend built a computer and once turning it on realized it did not post. He gave it to me to try and diagnose the issue. I have my main computer that is almost the same specs and was wondering if it would do any harm to take out my (already working) cpu and put it in his motherboard to try and diagnose if it is dead. Can I do this or will it harm my cpu?

Using a part of a good computer is very dangerous this will probably cause another problem. It must better use the isolation procedure check and test it one by one and most particularly check the PSU voltage isolated to the cpu. Check the voltage of the power supply unit that it have a standard voltage using VOM. The PSU must have a 3.3, 5, 12 VDC and if it is good output. You can also try to discharge the BIOS settings using the RTC jumper of the motherboard. Be sure also that your PSU is complied or power rated according to the Specification of your computer.
