Will the motherboard underclock my RAM?

Alright so I bought the MOBO Gigabyte GA Z97P-D3 and after a while I found out that it native supports 1333mhz or 1600mhz of RAM. However, the RAM I bought was 1866mhz.

I realised that the motherboard would underclock my ram and that I would have to overclock it back to 1866mhz.
My question is that by overclocking the RAM to 1866mhz, which is above the native 1600mhz, :

  • Would it increase the voltage required?
Would it overheat the RAM? (or not because it was meant to work at that speed?)
    Would it overheat the CPU?
Would it decrease the longevity? (as that's what I'm aiming for)

Thanks.

Solution
1866 ram is better quality 1333 ram that can run at 1866 when overclocked.
It will boot at 1333 to allow you to select a xmp profile with settings for a higher speed.

Ram needs no heat spreaders at all if operated at advertised speeds.
Ram running at higher voltages may impact your ability to overclock the cpu.
Do not worry about longevity, most ram has a lifetime warranty.

But faster ram comes with higher latency, negating most of the benefit.
You are looking at real performance differences or fps in the 2% range. Not worth too much anguish. Just run with what works.
