My friend has an older pc. Im not sure about its exact specs, but what i know his mobo is a Hp Benicia-Gl8E
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01324212.
He wants to run games such as Rust, H1Z1, ARk, etc. which are too much for his current computer graphics wise. He's on a budget so we cant replace the whole thing. We need either a new video card(at least 2gb) or a new board with a LGA775 socket that can support 8gb of ram and a 2gb video card.

Solution
Great news for your buddy, that motherboard has a PCI Express x16 slot ready to go. So while you'll be CPU-bound for the highest level of performance, your video card will not be holding you back. Your only constraints for the video card will be having a powerful enough power supply as well as space to put a larger card in.

Changing motherboards will be much more of a commitment, requiring:

1 - motherboard
It would absolutely make no sense to move to another socket 775 motherboard. Do not do this. So you'd need to move to a modern Intel or AMD motherboard, which uses DDR3 ram. Your current motherboard uses DDR2 800mhz ram

2 - CPU
Intel or AMD??? Depends on your game. Intel is more expensive but if your game only uses 1-2 cores I...

Intel or AMD??? Depends on your game. Intel is more expensive but if your game only uses 1-2 cores I recommend going Intel and a newer i3 cpu for the per-core performance. Intel waaay outclasses AMD on per-core performance.

3 - ram
Very cheap right now, 8GB DDR3 for around $40

4 - operating system
Usually around $90 to $110 if you buy the OEM version from microcenter.com. PC manufacturers license the operating system to the motherboard. Changing motherboards out wipes out the operating system.

I recommend going with a video card that will fit inside the PC, and a new power supply to complement it.

Then later, when your friend wants a nice boost, buy the parts above, install the new operating system and move the PCI Express card and power supply to a new case :)
