MSI r9 290x crossfire

Good Afternoon everyone,

I bought a MSI R9 290x oc Edition 4 months ago and when I did, my plan was to get a second one at some point. Now it seems like the 290x is discontinued and AMD now has the 3xx line out. I was wondering if someone could give me some advice on this!, Can I buy the 390x and run crossfire with the 290x? or should I go ahead and buy a new card and try selling the 290x.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

16gb 1600 ram
MSI Radeon R9 290X Gaming OC Edition
My power supply is 750 watts.
1.5tb harddrive Storage
250GB SSD (OS)
NZXT H630 CA-H630F-W1 White Steel Ultra Tower Silent Case Includes 1 x 200mm Front, 1 x 140mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0 2 x USB 2.0 SD Card Reader (CASE)

You could get a used Msi 290x. If you get a 390x you will only be able to use 4 gb vram out of the 8 gb in crossfire. You could sell it and get a fury or fury x.

I tried searching for a use card, but everything that I find is around 400 to 450 and for that price or little more I can get the 390x brand new. But I see what you are saying if I get the 390x I will be wasting the 4gb of vram.

750w for crossfire 290/290x with an fx 8 core would be massively pushing your luck anyway mate in all honesty.

What are your intentions here ?? Unless you're running 1440p+ resolutions its going to be wasted money anyway.

The main reason why I want this second card is to be able to run 4 monitors, at the moment I can only use 3. it might sound crazy. but I do multiple projects at once, and I could use the 4th monitor. at the moment my 4th monitor is not been used because I can only use 3 with the card.

Any help on this issue will be much appreciated, do I have to buy a new power supply if I end up adding a second gfx card so I can use a 4th monitor?

DVI for two monitors, HDMI for one, and DP for a total of 4

or a hub, and that increases to 6 total

Just make sure you use an active adapter for the DP if your monitor does not have this as a connector
