Just bought a new GPU, the Sapphire R9 380x, thought i had everything checked and all but now i think i have a problem! Just checked my PC and i cant find any 6 pin connector (or 8 pin), i assumed all PSU had 2. Am i just being stupid and there is one there somewhere or am i royaly * ! no idea what my psu is but its pretty * and only 500w, heres the whole PC- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/-/400592344755?roken=SfZt23

So what do i do? what can i do? if i have to buy a psu on top im gonna be * ! help someone and sorry for the stupid question.

<No matter what level of freakout you are at, watch the language. Thanks>

I like this '' KILLER GAMING PC '' looks like its killing you right now ..

what do you expect from a prebuilt with a 500w who knows what psu they put in it ?? then you got to wonder if they use a proprietary bios that may not accept the card even if you had a real psu in it ??

then next I like how they still say ''GRAPHICS CARD : 1GB ATI Radeon HD 7750 '' -- ATI ?? no its now for a few years called AMD

then the 7750 I don't guess required a pci-e led from the psu to power it it runs fully off the boards slot [low powered ]

and why I never recommend upgrading any prebuilt - this is what you run into among other things

They haven't listed your PSU in the spec list (other than to say it's 500W) and the fact that it doesn't have any PCIe connectors suggests it's very low quality. There are adapters you can buy, but it's not a good idea unless you're very confident your PSU can handle the load.

Best option and the one I highly recommend would be to upgrade your PSU. This one is the best bet - £52: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb9
Good quality Seasonic built.
Or pay £4 more for a similar, but more efficient Gold unit: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550gts3x

You could get the make/model of you PSU and post it back here. I'm happy to check it out for you. But I'm pretty sure I know the answer already... you'd be taking a massive risk.

Thank you, this response is very helpful, should I check for anything else before I buy specs wise? Will everything be compatible?

Nope, should all work. It's a standard depth 140mm power supply. So as long as that fits in your case (and looking at the Ebay images it absolutely should) you'll be fine.

It can be a little fiddly re-running all the PSU cables, and obviously it's money you hadn't planned on spending which sucks too. But, a dodgy PSU can cause all kinds of issues in a gaming PC and can even damage components. A good quality PSU like that XFX unit will last you a good 5 years at least and you can rely on it to keep everything running properly and safely.

Frustrating situation, but a good long term investment. All the best.
