Hi all

PC specs:

CPU: i5 6500
RAM: 8gb 1600mhz hyperx ddr3
PSU: XFX TS 650w

My msi r9 390 seems to not performing on par with benchmarks. For example im getting 10-25 fps less. Cant run gta, witcher 3, fallout 4 on ultra all dipping down to 30s on 1080p. This system is only new and worrys me a bit spending this much money on a machine that performs less on average

I went to play swotor and the thing was hitting mid 20 fps. and arma 3 is unplayable low 20s up to 60s in cases

My sysem is running at high performance and i have messed around with shadows, godrays, AA etc but unsure what else i can do

I bought this system as i thought it would blow 1080p gaming out the window

Solution

right click desktop > amd radeon settings >

gaming > global settings > global overdrive

make sure nothing is set to negative numbers

set power limit to 25%

set core speed to 0%

Thank you very very much dude this had me hovering around the 60 fps a lot more then usual I increased the power liimt to +25% and it has greatly improved performance.

Should I increase it a bit more to make sure its more stable or just leave it?

slowly raise it, you can up it by 5% at a time

run a benchmark like valley or heaven, if temps stay under 90 degrees under load after running it all the way thru

then increase 5% more and run the bench again

ideally you want to stay at mid 80's under full load on a 390

also for fallout 4 specifically you want to override tessellation levels, set to 8x at max

you can do so under global settings

Ok the problem seems not to be fixed,

But I think I have the gpu in a PCI x4 slot

Should i change it to the x16?

yes if you have it in a 4x slot you are limiting its performance
