Hello,

I've been having a lot of problem with what i suspect is my graphic card glitching out. Whenever i try to run a benchmark with Unigine heaven or try to play games my system after 10 seconds up to 2 minutes tops restarts or black screens. I suspect it's my GPU because when i just black screen, I end up being able to hear applications making noises and the MSI led turns off, along with the fans going off too. However its rarer to see a black screen rather than a instant restart.

I was having the same problem before i re installed Windows 10 today. I have installed my chipset drivers and GPU drivers etc but the problem is still persistent even after an OS wipe and install.
The behavior now though is different. Now its almost always just a instant restart when it used to be just black screening.

Also, unigine heaven makes the problem occur sooner. If that means anything.

Specs:
CPU: i5-4690k
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB Gaming
RAM: Corsair 2x4GB kit Vengeance RAM
MOBO: MSI Z97 PC Mate
Storage: Seagate 1TB SSHD 8GB Cache
PSU: EVGA 600B (600W) 80 Plus Bronze Certified

OS: Windows 10 Professional

P.S
Since my last great helper wasn't around anymore on my old thread and the problem has evolved since re installing windows, I've created a new thread after the old one died. Read it here if you wish: http://

This never used to happen, so i don't think of the PSU... You recon i'll be apply to rma?

Well it makes sense now... I was suspicion about the price. Since i need a PSU upgrade. What would you think would be a safe choice considering you've got my specs. I clearly suck at choosing, i can't believe i didn't find anything which showed bad sides like this.

Should of read this before choosing the answer. So i should downgrade the bios update since im on the latest update? If that doesn't do it, its most likely the motherboard its self.

@Nexus Radical, I love EVGA products and even I think that PSU is a pile of crap. As I was reading your description of the problem, the PSU is the first culprit that came to mind. Below is one of the model's of PSUs that I personally own and it's been rock solid stable for me. If it's too much money then you could look at the PSU tier list and pick out a nice tier 1 or 2 power supply that fits your budget.

Thanks, with Christmas around the corner, money won't be a problem for me. I'll play it safe and get something like a Tier 1 or 2. Thanks.

It's the best 550w PSU on the market based on the award winning Super Flower Leadex Gold series with a 7 year warranty.

550W G2 review.

Performance (40% of the final score) - you probably already know what I'm going to say here. Voltage regulation was excellent, averaging 0.9% in the hot box. No points deducted. Efficiency was a pass for Gold both times. No deduction. Ripple control was amazing, and probably the best I've ever seen, so definitely no deduction there. I saw no issues with anything else, so this unit gets a 10 here.

Functionality (20% of the final score) - this unit gets everything right. Even the CPU cable, which I thought was terrible on the 650W, is done right here today. Semi fanless mode works well, the manual is decent, we got lots of connectors to power anything a 550W unit should power, and the box came with more goodies than I tend to expect with such a small unit. 10.

Value (20% of the final score) - you can get one of these for $84.99 at Newegg right now. That's a fair bit for a unit this size these days, but as always EVGA is right at the bottom of the cost pile when it comes to 80 Plus Gold and full modularity. The nearest competition is their own 550W GS unit at one dollar more money. This is nuts. How are you making any money on these, EVGA? 10.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) - oh, snap... EVGA just got another perfect total score. There's nothing wrong with this unit. Nothing. 10.

Confirmed it was the PSU from hell.... I ran Unigine Heaven and on the old power supply it wouldn't be able to get pass the first 3 scenes. Now with the alternative PSU, i can complete the benchmark twice.

The problem was the EVGA powersupply. But now what? Should i stick with the Cooler master or should i upgrade still?

So an upgrade is due? Thats alright, better safe than sorry. I'll check out the tier 1-2 PSU's, something that will last me a long time and can handle upgrades if i want to SLI in the future, which i do at some point.

As for the 600b, if i cant rma or warranty is a no go, I'ma do something creative with it...

It's happening again guys... Uh oh, less frequently however. Could it be this cooler Master psu? Or maybe my motherboard. If you'll could help me again I'd appreciate it, you guys were amazing.

This is confusing as to how I can tell the cause. Psu or motherboard?

So heres my conclusion up to this point. I've nailed it down to most likely the PSU then GPU.

Why i've elimated other parts;
Motherboard:
*The problem doesn't happen when stress testing memory and CPU.
CPU:
*Already mentioned, stress testing the CPU doesn't trigger the problem.
*I'm able to overclock all cores in the BIOS to 4Ghz. Stress testing shows stable and problem doesn't occur.
However im not running any overclocks for the sake of causing more problems.
RAM:
*Problem doesn't occur when ram is stressed.
*Same as above even when overclocked to 2600Mhz.
HDD:
*Not to much to go on other than its fairly new.

Why i think its these components:
GPU:
*While rendering videos, the problem is just awaiting to happen.
*Problem occurs only when the GPU is under a heavy load.
PSU:
*Cheap quallity.
*No great reviews.

It must be the GPU then if the processor can handle full loads. Unless processors don't use as much power.

-Update-
I just underclocked my MSi graphics card by 100Mhz each. This time ran a cine-bench R15 and ran into the problem on a GPU test. What does this mean?

-update 2-
This normal. Its in the bios so i don't know if its really referable.
