Hi, I am having a pretty big problem with my PC right now. I have an older win XP system I built around 2008. My motherboard is an m3a32-mvp deluxe motherboard and an AMD athlon 64 5000+ processor. I had been wanting to upgrade my processor for a while, but found that socket am2 chips are way to rare to be affordable. So I checked on the asus site and they list a bunch of am3 chips that work with my motherboard, just with stripped down functionality. I got a nice quad core that is a good upgrade for me and tonight I flashed my bios to the most current one as it was necessary to flash to be able to run the new processor. I did not install the new chip, I haven't even opened it. The flash was successful, but when I go to boot the PC, it shows the windows loading splash screen and then nothing. Just black. I am able to boot into safe mode. What the heck did I do and is there any way to fix it? Searching the web for drivers has proven futile. Maybe I don't know what I am looking for? I can't determine where the problem is at this point. Can I roll back my bios version? Is it worth the risk? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Win XP 32 home
amd athlon 5000+ dual core 2.6
3.25 gigs ram
Radeon 7770

The On-Chip SATA Type has a default BIOS setting of [IDE]. If you want to use AHCI Advanced Host Control Interface then set this option to [AHCI].

Flashing the BIOS returns BIOS settings to default values so you might want to write down your settings before flashing the BIOS.

Hey, I managed to get it working. Pretty much have no idea how I did it. After a few boots it finally successfully loaded windows and has continued to do so. So weird. I installed the new chip and it's working great (other than a surprisingly louder fan!) My holidays are happy again and my PC is playing all of my high end (relatively speaking) games better than ever. It seems upgrades never go smoothly for me, but this was an especially bad one! I'm going to set this thing up to dual boot to linux next as moving forward it's going to be compatible with more games than XP (due to direct X limitations), so I will be able to play all of my old favorites as well as a few new direct x 11 games :) Thanks for taking time to offer help Calvin7!
