Hello TomsHardware community,

I built this new rig about right after Thanksgiving, all was swell, but just today I went and grabbed a new power supply, as I was using a year old EVGA 750 B2. I traded my old EVGA for a new EVGA 750 G2 for only $5, good deal, right? When I got home I disassembled my whole rig and plugged in the new power supply with all the parts laid out, just to test everything and make sure it works. All the fans kicked into gear and slowed down just like it would on the old supply. However, the problems began with the new power supply making a noticeably loud pitch noise when off, but not on. I decided to plug in my GPU to a monitor and make sure all temps were correct, however, the monitor after a couple seconds just went blank, but the system still ran. I restarted a couple times but yielded the same result. Next, I plugged in another EVGA B2 I had laying around, without a problem it went through the problem. Now we can say the PSU I bought was a dud, right? Nope. After plugging in my SSD and restarting, the GPU, a EVGA GTX 970 ACX 2.0 Ref, didn't blow its fans, instead it twitched. Reseating the card, along with the cables let it start into Windows. But now whenever any graphical intensive task occurs, the screen goes blank just like it did in the bios with the new power supply. When the screen goes blank the system still has fans running at the normal rate, but the GPU seems like its trying to turn the fans on but only twitches. I honestly have no idea what has happened.

Did this new power supply screw anything up? Or is it just me?

System Specs:
CPU: i7-4790k
CPU Cooler: Be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3

Ram: PNY Gold Edition 4gb x 4
PSU: (OLD: EVGA 750 B2) (NEW: EVGA 750 G2)
GPU: GTX 970 EVGA ACX 2.0 Reference PCB

The 6 and 8 pins for the PCI-e are in the GPU firmly, I have the system idling right now and the fans are twitching at a temperature well below 60.

Using EVGA Precision, the GPU sits at 69 degrees Celsius. At some points the game while make the screen blank, mid round, and force a restart.

Got it to work for 10 minutes without a crash, yet! I put the new power supply in, reset the bios, took out the bios battery to be safe, and reset all of EVGA Precision. CSGO is working now on the new power supply, GPU makes that weird clicking noise, only when the fan speed is at 20% so it's not an issue. Still debating if i should take the power supply back because it makes that high pitch noise when off but is fine when on.

Update: Tried a preset other then custom, wouldn't even load into map. Now it won't boot into bios screen. :(

And what of the GPU? I suspect that the black screen is because of it, it occurs on both the bronze and gold power supply.

Exchanged the GPU and PSU for new models, both work fine in the system right now.
