PC freezing during gameplay

Hi Peoples,

I've had a small issue after building my PC.
During gaming only, I seem to get random pc freezes. The PC can freeze after 5 mins, or I can play for several hours before it freezes.
The freezing itself is a complete lock up with a looped sound playing rapidly. There is no blue screen, just the last game frame displayed. The PC must be hard reset from this point.

MSI X99A Krait edition mbo
i7 5820k cpu
4 x 4GB ballistix DDR4
x2 gtx 980ti gpu's
Silverstone 1000W gold. psu
Windows 10.
I have custom water cooling on the gpu's and kraken x61 on the cpu.

All drivers appear up to date.
Temps don't rise above 55C for CPU or GPU during intense gameplay(think Withcher 3 maxed out at 4k resolution).

I've run furmark for 25mins no problems
I've run memtest86 for 2hrs. no probs
I have not yet run prime95 (is this available for win10?).
*I've run aida64 - no probs

I'm kinda at a loss now.
I've 3 things that I've read on various forums that may or may not be worth looking at.
Could my PSU be faulty? not sure how to test.
Could there be some windows 10 issue?
Could it be the audio drivers? ie the gpu's and the mbos-realtek conflicting?

Any tips would be great!

Out of the three possible solutions you listed the most likely is probably the PSU. I'm running Windows 10 as well and have not experienced that problem, nor anything with the audio drivers (I use Realtek) on my Z170 board.

Thanks for replying sidewinder.
I'll play around for a few more days but in the end I suspect you are right.
I disabled the GPU audio driers and it made no difference.
The PSU is the only component I carried over from my previous rig..

To me it sound like a driver problem. I had the exact same problem on my old rig. Used to freeze during youtube and gaming and pretty much everything and it was very randomly. Like you said, you can play or watch youtube for hours and hours and nothing will happen and it can freeze in 5 mint after powering up. Nobody knew what was wrong with it untill someone suggested to upgrade the motherboard driver and BIOS version and voi'la, Was working perfectly after.

Thanks for the info Andrei-Florin Gogan.
I just double checked my motherboard drivers/versions and they are all the latest versions.
Would have been an easy fix :(

Perhaps this thread is now too old and buried.. but I'll try here again before re-posting.

I've put in a new psu corsair 1200.
I'm still getting random pc freezing while playing games with a buzzing sound from speakers.
So its not the psu.

Anymore ideas?
Could it be the ram and it isn't showing up in the memtest?

I have this same issue and I assumed it was the PSU. Sorry to hear it doesnt work. If you found a solution by now I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you

I have since built a new PC, but before I did so, I switched in my new RAM into the old machine and same problem.
My new PC uses the same GPU's as the old system and the same SSD. No Problems at all on new PC.

The problem was without a doubt the MSI X99A Krait edition MBO
I have since been told there were some others having issues with the same MBO.

This can be the most frustrating outcome, as the entire PC will need to be rebuilt with a new MBO.
My old PC is now being used by the other half for google etc. no games = no crashes.

Ohh. Yea, the only thing my PC can do confidently is google chrome. Guess I'll look into a new motherboard and keep all my other parts. Thanks for the help!!
