Approximate Purchase Date:
December and pre-January

Budget Range:
$200 for upgrade, unless conditions are favorable. ;)

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
Heavy duty, but not turned on 24/7. (Video editing, 3D modelling, photoshop, and MOSTLY gaming) I'm still a student, yes.

Are you buying a monitor:
Willing to buy a $200 or less monitor!

Parts to Upgrade:
Motherboard: ASUS H81M-D (ASUS Maximus VII is J's Pick!)
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K (Nothing to see here!)
Graphics Card: ASUS Strix GTX 970 OC Edition (Nothing to see here!)
PSU: Cougar SL600 (CoolerMaster 1000W! BUT, efficiency will decrease. Rip electricity bills)
RAM: Kingston HyperX (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz (Maybe a 2x8GB?)
HDD: WesternDigital 500GB 7200RPM (Samsung Evo 850 500GB SSD PLEASE!)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Nothing to see here!)
Cooler: 2x Fractal Design 140mm Fans, and stock processor fan
Peripherals: All Razer Chroma and Logitech G400s for CSGO ._. (Nothing to see here!)
*"Nothing to see here!" means I have no plans to upgrade them because they are at their peak.

Do you need to buy OS:
Depends if a new motherboard is suggested!

Preferred Website(s) for Parts:
I have my own sources in my local stores. But I'll reply quick if my sources have what you suggest!

Location:
Philippines, Gilmore yo. Cheap prices. I swear, all my parts are from them.

Parts Preferences:
For processors: Intel
For graphics cards: nVidia
Other than that, I like ASUS (MOBO and GPU) and Samsung (SSD).

Overclocking:
Doubt it. UNLIMITED POWER.

SLI or Crossfire:
Never. I'm poor.

Your Monitor Resolution:
Currently have a 1360x768, but I am more than willing to get a 1920x1080!
And frequently transferring to the movie room for 4K love. But it's a borrowed TV... It's not mine.

Additional Comments:
- I despite lights INSIDE my computer, but absolutely love bling OUTSIDE.
Example: Razer Blackwidow Chroma > LED Fans
- Please... no watercool. Leaks are possible in a hot climate area.
- Something a student can afford.
- I love cold PCs.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading:
It's Christmas.
Other than that, my PC has some parts that may not go through 5 years like the motherboard and the PSU, but I need some other opinions if I should upgrade or would it be considered impulsive buying.
So!
What do you suggest to upgrade my Stormtrooper?
(My case is white, and it looks like a stormtrooper...)

Solution
I'm confused as to what you mean by "nothing to see here". A 4790K + a GTX 970 is a pretty competent processor / GPU configuration, but you have it paired with a motherboard that does not allow for overclocking, I would suggest remedying that ASAP. I'd also suggest replacing that PSU and adding a solid aftermarket cooler ASAP if your priority is overclocking.

You can't make a PC "future proof" no matter how hard you try, but if a monitor upgrade is something you're considering as well, I would suggest looking at SLI'ing that 970 and then that would pair very well with a 1440P setup, that will be a step beyond 1080P. I'm going to be doing the same thing for my rig.

Hello,

From the parts i can see there, with respect to future proofing, i would say (and i realize you have said you dont like the idea), buying a Z series mobo and a better cpu cooler and ocing that K series CPU, if you bought the K you may as well use it right?, the good thing about using the intel/nvidia combo is that they are not so power hungry so i wouldnt change the PSU unless you notice any issues, im using all AMD on a 750 with no problems at all.

I would also say that with respect to future proofing, that 970 may run into VRAM issues, expecially if you plan to upgrade to FHD or UHD at all (my experience with 970's)

If you do decide to take that advice, in terms of a cpu cooler the 212 Evo is always a fan favourite and works well, and in my option the Cryorig H7 is a great cooler for about the same price and performance.

Hope that is helpful

Well, since this post is old already...
I'll update you with my build:
Motherboard: ASUS H81M-D (I'm now leaning on the ASUS TUF Z97 Sabertooth Mark S)
Processor: Intel Core i7-4790K (Nothing to see here!)
Graphics Card: ASUS Strix GTX 970 OC Edition (Nothing to see here!)
PSU: Cougar SL600 (Nothing to see here!)
RAM: Kingston HyperX (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz (Nothing to see here!)
HDD: WesternDigital 500GB 7200RPM (STILL NEED A Samsung Evo 850 500GB SSD PLEASE!)
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Nothing to see here!)
Cooler: 2x Fractal Design 140mm Fans, and stock processor fan
Peripherals: All Razer Chroma and Logitech G400s for CSGO ._. (Nothing to see here!)

I also bought a BenQ RL2455HM. I now have a 1080p monitor...

Here's what I'm planning to buy:
The ASUS TUF Z97 Sabertooth Mark S
Windows 10 Professional and a CoolerMaster Hyper 212X. (No Evo in my place...)

What do you think?

There's better coolers that you can get than the Hyper 212 Evo - get a Cryorig H7 or anything from Noctua, those will be better investments and much easier to install.

"Nothing to see here" means hes not looking at changing.

This is solid advice, your cpu is fine, and with the Z97 you plan to buy you can OC and be happy, however, the Cryorig or Noctua are better options, if your case can fit it, the R1 Universal is fantastic (I have one on an AMD FX and it keeps the thing going in the australian summer), but the H7 will work just as well if not better than the Evo...

That being said 970 is probably reaching its peak for max settings in the next year or so.. and u may wanna look at one of the next gen gpus as they are both promising exponential perfomance increases

That PSU definitely needs changing regardless. Especially if overclocking is a priority. The Couger unit is manufactured by HEC, which is a tier 3 / 4 vendor at best. You want a tier 1 for overclocking - the EVGA G2 / P2 / T2 are widely regarded as the best out there right now, with the Seasonic X/G and Corsair AXi/HXi not far behind.

Depends on monitor resolution. For 1080P or multiple 1080P displays a 970 will last you several years although SLI should definitely be a consideration. For 1440P that 970 in SLI will last a long time as well. 4K? You'd be pushing your luck with 970 SLI.

Alright, thank you for all the feedbacks, guys! Here's a new shopping list taking from your advice:

ASUS Sabertooth Z97 TUF Mark S and new OS| Priority 1
Samsung Evo 850 500GB | Priority 2
CoolerMaster Hyper 212 X | Priority 3
Corsair PSU (yet to decide) | Priority 4

Also, since I am a student, I think future proofing my PC is impossible. But I think I can maximize its life span to performance ratio.
i7-4790K and GTX 970 are the cookie cutters of 2015. We'll see about 2016.
