So, i was building my very first pc last night and assembled it. I try to boot it up and nothing happens except the cpu fan starting up for 1 second then dying. I'm not sure what i did wrong. I tried doing the ram stick trick of testing each one out in each slot, and no success. The only mistake that i could think of, of when i assembled my pc is with the power cable molex connector that comes attached to the case, from the case fans( it has 2 thick pins and no other pins beside it, even though it looks like there could be room for 2 more). Anyways, i attached that peice to a part of my cables from my power supply, and was wondering if thats where you attach it. Also, i noticed when i was recconecting my cables, the 24 pin connector has 1 tiny metal thing inside 1 of the holes missing, and was wondering could that be a reason for the pc not starting up. My build is this - https://pcpartpicker.com/user/gilgamesh2c/saved/ . Except, for the PSU, i used this - Corsair 600W CX600 V2 POWER SUPPLY. I would really appreciate any help, I'm just feeling down because i was so excited to build my first pc and see it in action.

It looks like a short, or CPU 8 pin power cable not connected. Try taking the board outside the case and testing it on its box. Check the standoffs. Make sure that they are in correct spots. Make sure also that the 8 pin CPU power cable is properly connected to the motherboard.

Thank you for the reply. I have 2 questions based off that. I just want to confirm that the 8 pin cpu power cable has that lever thing at the top so it clicks into place. Also, could the short be caused by damage done to the back of the mobo? I think one of the standoffs scratched 1 of the little tiny metal things on the back of the mobo, where it should be alligned. I'm talking about that ring of medal dots around the hole where the stand off is alligned, so you screw it down with a screw from the top.

Hey, i saw some posts on alignments of standoffs with board screw holes. If they wouldn't be alligned, how would that affect the actually boot-up of the pc? Logically speaking ( Although im a total noob when it comes to pc's), it seems like the power source would be responsible for the functions of the motherboard ( the 8 pin and 24pin connectors.)
