I have already picked out some parts and need input on compatibility and other parts. Do I need a graphics card, what kind of monitor? Here is a list of the parts I have been getting but have not put together yet.

You do not need a GPU with that cpu (It has the integrated graphics, your HDMI cable or whatever you use would plug into back of mobo. Everything looks to be compatable but you really dont need 16gb's of ram. 8 Is plenty. Also change the PSU out for a EVGA GS Or G2 Unit. They are more reliable. For monitor, that integrated GPU cant run at higher then 1080p I believe (If it can be prepared for lag). So a normal 1080p monitor will work well for you.

he has stated it is a gaming PC. there are no APUs with onboard graphics out there that can handle games at decent settings at decent resolutions. so yes, he needs a dedicated graphics card.

@ Hosstycle,
that setup you have, along with a decent GPU, will be able to run games. but, they will be at low settings and with fairly low frame rates.

if you want to stick with AMD; i would recommend a 990FX motherboard and FX8350 CPU.
if you have no preference; i would recommend a Z170 motherboard and i5 6000 series CPU. change the RAM to 2x 4GB of some DDR4 2400 or faster and you'll be set

for GPU i would recommend at least the 8GB R9 380X but would really aim for the 390X.

That APU can run many modern games at medium settings. AMD CPU's are rather weak in gaming though so id recommend switching to a H170 Motherboard and a i5-6500 if you don't plan on overclocking and if you do a z170 mobo with a i5-6600k. But that APU CAN run games. Also a 380x is more then enough for 1080p/1440p if thats what you want. Don't go for the 390x unless you plan on 4k or just wanna go overkill a bit for 1080p.
