Is it okay for my hard drive to make loud grinding sounds all the time?

I just got done building my new PC and my Refurbished Hitachi 2TB HDD makes loud grinding sounds all the time. Is this okay? I haven't ran into any problems so far, just that its irritating, and other people I read about with similar sounded HDD needed to replace it because it could die any minute. I had it less then a week and it has not been dropped or have been hit hard to cause any problems. It is refurbished and could that be why it makes the grinding sound? Any answers will be appreciated.

Definitively no good, some are more noisy than other but no grinding noises. I happen to have one of same and doesn't make any noises, in fact it's quieter than WD of same size.

In general the grinding sound is a bad sign. However I have a WD black 1TB and it does make a few grinding sounds/knocks every so often. Especially when loading big files/programs... It has been this way for 4 years though and absolutely no other issues.

It isn't especially loud though, I mean it's almost silent with my headset on. Even if there is no sound through my headset.

Mostly trying to determine your definition of loud... but yeah it's usually bad.
