Hello,

I searched but there no official info about how many platters are there in below two models.

These are latest one but in some I seen 1 platter and 3 platters.

WD Caviar Green 1 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD10EZRX) RPM 5400
WD Blue 1 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD10EZEX) RPM 7200

Please confirm, you may already be using these. :)

Thanks

The last WD Green (WD10EZRX) drive to have 1 TB platters like the Red series. Before they started to mix the Green with the Blue. WD does not make any new single platter WD Green drives any more so the last 1 TB Green single Platter they have is (WD10EZRX) WD has switch to Blue,Red,Purple and Black Hard drives from now on there are still Green drives out there from old stock and won't be getting updated by WD

Western Digital has given their hard drive line-up a makeover, with the company rebranding all Green drives to Blue drives in an effort to make it "easier for customers to choose the right drive for their PC."

The interesting thing about WD Caviar Green 1 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD10EZRX) RPM 5400 is that it’s currently the only Green drive to have 1 TB platters like the Red series.

And the WD Blue 1 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive (WD10EZEX) RPM 7200 is a great hard drive and is amongst the faster drives currently available and in terms of real world performance it beats its predecessor the Blue (WD10EALS) dual platter by around 18%. The (WD10EZEX) Blue has a single 1TB platter which combined with its 7200 rotation speed allow for above average performance across the board.

Western Digital has given their hard drive line-up a makeover, with the company rebranding all Green drives to Blue drives in an effort to make it "easier for customers to choose the right drive for their PC."

Under the new branding scheme, Western Digital goes from having four main consumer hard drive lines to just three: Blue, for entry-level drives; Red, for NAS systems and long-term reliability; and Black, for ultimate performance from a spinning disk drive.

However, by merging the Green and Blue lines, Western Digital has made their line-up more confusing for people wanting an entry-level drive. Previously, all Green hard drives featured 5,400 RPM-class performance, while Blue drives featured 7,200 RPM-class platters, making it easy to choose between energy efficiency (Green) or performance on a budget (Blue).
With the new line-up, you'll have to look closer at model numbers to determine whether you're getting a 5,400 or 7,200 RPM hard drive.

Western Digital suggests that the best way to do so is look at the last letter in the model number: if it's "X", you're getting a 7,200 RPM drive; but if it's "Z", it's going to be 5,400 RPM.

The branding changes have already come in to effect at most retailers around the globe, so make sure you look at the model number when purchasing a Blue drive to ensure you're getting the performance you're after.
