Ram upgrade to 16gb or 24gb

Hello

Im trying to upgrade my ram in the near future
Currently i have
I7 6700k
Asus maximus viii hero
Xfx pro series xxx 850w
Zalman z11 plus case
Raijintek triton aio
Samsung sm 951 pcie ssd 128gb
Wd black drive 1tb
8gb corsair vengance lpx 2666mhz ddr4 ram
Gigabyte gtx 970 g1 gaming

Im thinking about buying the same corsair vengance ram but i dont know if i should buy +8 or +16gb? I dont think i need 24gb as this computer is only for gaming but if i buy a 16gb kit ram it surely works together while my ram and an other same kit might not :/

So if i buy 16gb and it doesnt work together i still have an upgraded ram

What do you think is there a way to make sure the ram i buy will be compatible with the one i have?

i would buy +16 so that you can have 8+8+8 now, and later on you can move your original 8 stick to a mITX build (as they typically only have 2 slots to work with)

I have 4+4 now im thinking about buying +4x2 or +8x2

Or +8 is also an option

i would MYABE buy 2x8G now. i've bought 2x4G in the past and now they're "kinda small" nowadays. but then again it depends on what your machine will actually be used for and how close you are to running low on space now. if you're not running low and not swapping/paging that much, i'd just do nothing until a 2x16G is reasonably priced. heck, i've got an older set of 2x2G and for WinXP it's about as much as it can handle anyways being a 32bit system.

Im max useing like 9-10gb or so and around 4-5gb on average The +16gb would only be reasonable bcs it would surely work together

go the 16GB so you'll have at least 16GB, best to get a set of the full amount you want/need, there are no guarantees when mixing DRAM from different packages - even of the same exact model. Your current might play with the new, might not

Not even the same modell of ram would work??
How many chanse is there for it to work? Like 1% 50% or 90%??

50/50.....when DRAM is made they check sticks for compatibility in order to make up packages
