Hello,

I have a GTX 970 in my system which runs fine on a 500w PSU. But I wanted to get a cheap 5970 from eBay just as a spare card incase my AIO leaks onto my 970.

I need to know. Will the EVGA 500w 80+ Bronze power the 5970? Will it be enough?

Thanks

To give a propper answer i'd have to know the full specs of your machine, the graphics card is not the only component of the pc that requires power.

However seeing as how the gtx 970 requires 145 watt and the 5970 294 watt, i'd be careful, power supplies degrade over time and might lose some of their "umpf". But i digress, please provide your full specs and i'll give you a solid answer.

No, it'll not work.
Everything added up you are well over 500w, consider upgrading psu, or just stepping down a step on your choice of a backup gpu.

Thanks for that!

I'd rather just get a new psu, it will give me some headroom for future upgrades anyways.

What PSU would you recommend and what wattage?

It depends on what you really need, i have had a tx 650 for years now and have never had problems with it.
I'd reccomend that.
