A friend and I are discussing wether or not he should upgrade both his cpu and gpu or just his GPU to see large gains in performance.

i5 3570k OCed to 4Ghz
660ti

I tell him his CPU is more than enough say for example, a GTX970 and should still be enough for another year or so ? But he is in doubt that that is enough to improve upon what he already has.

Opinions ? Will his cpu not cope well in say, games 6 months from now ? He plays on 1920x1080.

i5-3570K is pretty much comparable to modern day i5's and still a beast. Upgrading to a modern i5 ot i7 will give you little to zero boost in gaming. It's still a beast.

GTX 970 is a nice 1080p that can max out pretty much anything. Make sure your PSU can power it though.
