New PC has no display

Hi!

I've just finished building my first ever PC, and to my relief it turned on after following a step by step instruction guide! The only problem is, I have no signal on my monitor when connecting it via the GPU. The GPU fan is spinning and my keyboard/mouse light up when turning on the PC but I can't get any display!

I would be very grateful if someone could give me some advice! Thanks

You're welcome.
I've seen some cases where tvs would not work in BIOS, because of low resolutions.
It should work with no issues after installing Windows and the graphics driver.
That's why I think that would be good to test firstly with a monitor, before seating and re-seating components, or other troubleshooting.

I've just purchased a monitor and tried every connection combination possible, but the monitor tells me that there is no signal

Unfortunately I don't have access to any other GPU, someone suggested this build for me at r/ buildapc

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/3wt66z/build_help_finishing_parts_to_complete_build/

so I assumed they had the knowledge to build a compatible machine.

I've made a 1 minute long video showing the process of me turning it on, and the cabling etc of my PC (sorry for the untidy cabling) if there is anything stupid and obvious that I am unaware of!

I really appreciate your help!

- I noticed the GPU has 2 power inputs and I only have 1 plugged in. I tried both, and only 1 in the other input but it wouldn't turn on at that point

You have to connect both PCIe power cables to the card. But since still not working...
The "problem" with the CPU you're using is that it doesn't have integrated graphics, therefore not able to test the onboard.

Try though borrowing a card and testing. A case speaker would also help, for checking if motherboard and CPU do work.

Wow there is the solution haha. Although the fan isn't spinning but I now have something on my screen

I'm so sorry for wasting @alexoiu's time, and anybody else who has read this. Thank you very much for your responses.

A cheap video card is a handy thing to have around. There's this situation, which you're in now; and then there's the inevitable emergency when your main video card dies in 3-5 years. This is as essential tool, as much so as a screwdriver.

The GPU needs both power cables connected.

The MINIMUM power requirement for that card is 550 W. The recommended supply is 650 W. You have a 500 W power supply. That could be your problem.

Regardless, you have to start swapping parts to find the bad one.

You should be booting without any SSD or hard drives connected at this point, just trying to see POST scroll and reach BIOS.

You've swapped memory around. Nothing changed.

Have you swapped the video cable, or used another type?

Have you tried another monitor? Or connected that same monitor to another computer?

Swapping the video card is the next easy step. This is why you need a cheap spare, or a friend with an extra card.

Swapping the power supply would be the next easy thing to do.

Then you're swapping the motherboard, which is not as fun. And the processor.

I'd start calling friends, looking to scrap together an extra video card and power supply.

Edit:

Oh, I thought I read you tried with both connections, but it still did not work. My bad.
