massive wireless performance issues on 2.4 ghz with 2 routers in hardwired bridge mode

Hi I have 2 linksys router e4a4500 & e4200 that are in wired bridge mode.... i am having massive performance issues especially on 2.4ghz my download speeds are less than 5mbps and my hard wired is over 177mbps... can anyone help... also how can i test to see if both routers are failing with regard to wireless... thanks! If you are using them in bridge mode are you trying to create a wireless link between the two routers or are you using the two routers as access points?

i am using the ea4500 as an access point on my 1st floor to get signal to the rest of the house... my e4200 is the router stuck in the basement due to the configuration of the house....and i dont get good signal from the basement to the 1st floor or the 2nd floor which is why i am using two routers and the hardwired bridge mode

If the 4200 is your primary router I would think it should be in router mode so that it is the DHCP and NAT server. So you have an ethernet cable between the two devices?

yes, that is in router mode the 4500 is in AP mode and yes hard wired connection between them

First make sure they are on unique channels (1, 6, 11). Make sure they are both in 20Mhz mode. Make sure they are both in WPA2 with AES encryption.

interesting you mentioned the channels i downloaded the wifi analyzer app to see the channel performance ... no matter which channel i select 1 6 or 11 the minute it changes the app says the performance is almost zero...

also are you saying the that 4200 & 4500 need to be on different channels?

assuming you mean this for the 2.4 only not 5 ghz.. the 5 setting is auto for both routers

I actually manually assign my 5Ghz channels also. The 20Mhz channel width only applies to 2.4Ghz.

how do i pick the best ones then for 5ghz.... i have interference around me and my channel performance changes quite a bit according the wifi analyzer app

Usually 5Ghz is much less crowded. What country you are in determines what channels you have available. In the US I use the upper channels (140+)...

yes in the US....why do you think my performance is so bad... less than 5mbps on 2.4 most of the time......also linksys says my routers are bad and suggested 2 new wrt190acs routers.... is there any way to see if the wifi part of the routers are bad?

Just did another speed test and get 2.66mbps down on my 2.4 network and 34.32mbps on the 5ghz
