Mouse (g400s) disconnecting and reconnecting

and I have no idea what the problem is. The computer I'm using is about 3 years old, the mouse probably closer to about a year old. Randomly in games (sometimes while not in-game, although less frequently) I hear the USB disconnect sound, and the mouse no longer responds. Then about 3-4 seconds later I hear the reconnect sound, and the mouse begins to work again. This has happened for about a month or so now.

For specific reasons I don't want to bore you with, I'm using this older computer specifically with the intent of playing fps games, as I've got it optimised to be as responsive as possible through various driver setups and desktop configurations, none of which have ever given me any trouble.
However, I have another gaming desktop, and a laptop which I use for work. I've tested the mouse on both of these machines, and they work fine, although the test time per machine was probably around 20-25 minutes so it's possible that's the reason I noticed no issues. I've also tested different mice on this machine, and again they do work - but I've never spent more than about 30 minutes on said mice before moving on or reverting to what I'm currently using atm, so maybe my results are inconclusive.

I've narrowed it down to what I believe could be options:

- My PSU is bust
- Some type of incompatible driver configuration/device manager/etc
- My USB ports are dead
- My mouse is dead

I have an odd feeling there's some kind of weird driver incompatibility. For a long time, and as part of my idiosyncratic setup, I wasn't playing with the drivers (Logitech Gaming Software) for my mouse. The mouse worked fine, and I only installed them today to test the mouse at different polling rates to see if the USB ports were under too much stress at higher numbers. It made no difference. There's also a bunch of odd stuff under the device manager about HID compliant mice and USB Root Hubs that I don't understand whatsoever.

I'm incredibly confused and don't know too much about this stuff, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I could just change mouse and see if that works, but replacing either my computer or my mouse would be something I'd only want to do as a last resort.

Thanks for reading + Merry Christmas!

I would suspect the mouse may be failing. I would try it for a while (24 hours +) on a different system to check for issues. I've had mice fail a few times and more than once symptoms began like what you describe. One particular mouse would be fine for up to two weeks at a time (until it died completely) while I chased drivers, settings, etc. trying to figure the problem - ironically, in that case, the mouse didn't really seem to be the issue

The mouse didn't seem to be the issue?
But just to confirm - you've had similar issues like this that were subsequently fixed by a mouse change completely?

Thanks for your answer, much appreciated.

Changing the mouse worked - I still kick myself for not considering hardware initially. The strange thing (in that one case) was that it rarely happened when I was using the computer but when it was running autonomously - I'd hear the USB disconnect/reconnect notice alert but activity logs only showed USB device connection lost/regained and were never specific. Heck, I swapped out my keyboard before checking my mouse (but even then it was after doing the drivers and settings things for almost everything USB I own)!

Alright, thanks for your answer. It's not what I wanted to hear, but probably what I needed to hear. I guess I'll be on the lookout for something to replace my G400s and I'll post back and let you know if it works. Thanks a lot man!

I'm having the same issue with my g400s. Did you get your issue resolved? Was it the really the mouse?
