New Hard Drive WD Blue clicking noise and more

Hey guys,

I just bought a new WD Blue hard drive. Everything was fine until I got to the part where I had to partition it. Just when I clicked finish at the partition wizard the HDD started to make some clicking noises and froze my opened windows. The OS was fine since I have it installed on an SSD but the sound won't go off so when I tried to turn off the PC via Windows the screen went dark as was expected but the system was still powered on so I cut the power supply via the button on the back of the case. On my next boot the system wouldn't boot and the only way to fix this was to disconnect the new HDD. Now the thing is the after all this, my OS is fine but when it boots the windows loading shows twice thus increasing my boot time by a second or 2. Do you have any ideas what went wrong?

Well, as I guessed, there is most probably something wrong with the drive. :( That is really unpleasant.
It may be a good idea to take that one back to the store as well. In case you get your system to the store, I guess you can test the next replacement on the spot.

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
Unfortunately, it seems that it is failing/has failed.

Have you tried attaching the drive with different cables? In case you haven't, you can try that.(both SATA and power ones) You can attach it to another SATA port as well.

My guess would be that your system can't properly boot right? In case it does, you can test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=KbtpQt

In case the issue persists, or the DLG tool fails the tests, you can just contact WD's Support or the place you got the drive from and RMA it.

Hey,

Sorry for the huge delay. I was out of town for holidays. So, I just went back to the store and got a replacement but I have a new problem. This new HDD which is the same type ( WD Blue 1 TB ) shows in bios but after I add it via the Windows 10 hard-drive installer it just disappears from the list and I can't boot the system while it's connected. Any ideas what might cause this? Connecting another Samsung 500 Gb HDD works fine with no installation or anything.

Yes I did that. And after I clicked finish it stood for some 1-2 minutes and disappeared from the disk list. After restarting the system the booting process froze at the Windows logo. After disconnecting the HDD and connecting another HDD from an older laptop which I had around, everything was fine. Could it be that I chose GPT and not MBR. I had no idea what this was and after searching the terms on Google it seemed everyone was in favor of GPT, as it should soon replace MBR.

Make sure that the SSD is your only boot option(BIOS). I don't that it has something to do with GPT or MBR. Yet, you can try that.
The fact that another HDD works just fine(no matter what size or brand), indicates that most probably that there may be something wrong with the drive. Yet, it is unlikely to get two faulty drives in a row. In order to be absolutely sure if this is the case, you will need to attach it to another system.

So I went to a friend's house to try the disk on his PC and the same thing happened. First BIOS would detect it, all fine, but the HDD doesn't appear in the Initialize Disk List. Also after restarting Windows the booting process froze at the Windows logo. He is also running Windows 10.
