Hello Everyone,
Maverick here, its my first post after being a passive reader from ages !

I come to all of you with great expectation regarding my PC build .

Bit of background which will explain the Weirdness in design as well !

BACKGROUND- from 2007 my gaming has been on alienware m17s and now a downgraded acer with 740m .
In market for new laptop i realised the obvious that laptops are still quite behind specially in upgradability, graphics muscle and clean desktop space so i decided to go for desktops again ! Started with mItx Corsair 250d case because

WEIRDNESS /SPACE CONSTRAINT - ONly space to keep the desktop is on top of 13 inch X 13 Inch wharfedale Subwoofer ! the design of 250d , prodigy, 350t fitted it well but at the same time these cabinets lack space for sli config and i believe they will not be as cool as well.

GAMING PC REQUIREMENTS -

1. CASE

a. Footprint of case should not be more than length 13 inches, depth not more than 19 inches ( will have 8 inches of space from wall for exhaust ), height 24 inches . case should have power front I/ O buttons on top or left side , plus a top window will be lovely.

b.. Superb airflow, cooling as ambient temperature will be between 24- 32 celsius and i plan to sli it in future plus a sound card. I prefer natural air flow rather than stuffing it with many fans

c. ATX Motherboard mountability plus at least 6 expansion cards

2. Graphics card - GTX 970, i read MSI gaming 4G is best or ASUS Strix GTX 970

3. Processor - here lies the dilemma - skylake with/ without hyperthreading for future proofing or Intel Xeon E3-1240 v3 for cheap price and good stock cooler

4. motherboard- suggestion for motherboard with respect to processor choices which looks good and has superb audio card as well . Have good design for future SLI Config

SUMMATION -IN all i have $1000 as limit but want to make as cheap as possible superbly cooled, Good looking ( loved the design of NZXT 440 , Corsair 380t in yellow and Bitfenix Prodigy ) system around gtx 970 which is except gaming will be used for Photoshop, Solidworks, Autocad as well .

I need a 256 gb ssd or hybrid drivr plus 8gb ram and PSU to fit in $1000 as well .

SIDE NOTES

I quite liked NZXT 440 but its bit deeper than my limit and do not know its performance regarding cooling and dust proofness in future SLI kit

Loved PRODIGY mITX case in orange but again realised its not for me due to above mentioned factors .

Any suggestion will be appreciated as i have invested past 10 days figuring these things out ( last pc i built was in 2003 !, it used to be easy then ! )

Hi

Putting PC on top of sub woofer speaker case is not a good idea.
Both vibration & magnetic field not good for hard disks

good cooling requires good air flow, in a small case will need case fans

For games I5 is probably good enough
only if running software designed to use more than 4 threads is I7 or Xeon needed.

If not over-clocking Intel retail cpu with heatsink/fan will do in cooler climate
(though in your case something better may be advisable)

240/250GB SSD + HDD of 1 or 2 TB better than a hybrid drive

thanks for clear reply. regarding case position on subwoofer, somewhere in this forum i read its not a problem as subwoofers are magnetically shielded , dont know for sure though. would prefer hyper threading for solidworks, autocad etc but want want future proofing as well . Confusions !
will mid tower like nzxt 440 ort big htpc case like cooler master evo be fine in terms of cooling ? thanks again
