I'm trying to install a new modem/router but I'm having trouble connecting to it through ethernet - by using a web page and its login address, I'm thinking its because of the current modem I have has some software installed that shows up in control panel/programs and features, if I uninstall this will the default gateway and ip address be reset to nothing?

The new router/modem says "this web page is not available , ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" when I open a web page and use its login address and in windows trying to make a new internet connection it says "Connection failed with error 651". My previous modem has.... "Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Belkin" in ipconfig I was hoping if I deleted the Belkin software I could install the new modem/router.

How are you trying to access the new router? It should be just through a browser.

But yes, uninstall the old s/w. Not sure if that will make any difference, but you don't need it any more.

I have tried to ping my default gateway through the ethernet connection of my pc to the modem and that is successful but I still cant access its settings through a web browser. I have tried the gateway by 192.168.1.1 and the www.xxxxxxxxxxx.net option but I still get "this web page is not available and ERR_CONNECTION_RESET" and if I try to make a new connection in control panel / network and sharing centre / setup a new connection or network i get "Connection failed with error 651" I have also tried to connect to the modem/router with just the ethernet cable and power plugged in but its still the same. I tried disabling my anti virus and fire wall but its no good. All I need at this point is to connect to the modem/router so I can change its settings please does someone have a clue why I cant get into it?
