Intel i7 4790k is appearing as Intel Celeron CPU G1840 in Computer properties and BIOS, at only 2.8 GHZ, why?

Hi, I recently upgraded my PC with a new GPU, CPU and Motherboard.
I purchased and installed the ASUS B85M-G motherboard and installed the i7 4780k also, though as it has been appearing and working like the other CPU in the title, it's quite annoying that I can't achieve what I purchased. The Motherboard states that it is compatible with the i7 and the Windows 10 OS I'm using, but why is this error occurring?
I've been unable to find a related case.

Thanks.

Solution
Is your motherboard using the most recent BIOS version? Sometimes, newer versions are required for some CPUs on some motherboards.

I have updated the BIOS, the drivers and chipset etc, but the issue persists. My Computer properties recognizes my old Motherboard as the current motherboard.

Unfortunately getting similar if not the same issue, 4790k being seen as Celeron G1840, any luck?

Nope! Still staying the same.

Thanks, this identified the new motherboard but still showing the same CPU.

The same, Celeron G1840.
I'm pretty positive, have the box and installed it myself, it says i7. I don't know, perhaps its possible the processor inside was the Celeron G1840 but I doubt it as another guy on this thread is having the same uncommon issue.

I'm unsure, it was a gift, though the box did seem scruffy, but inside the CPU fan and CPU itself seemed well packaged. On the CPU chip would it detail the product's name? And yes I still have my old CPU. It's an old CPU that came with a GPU, as I couldn't install my new GPU due to other issues yet, I'm using the supposed i7 with that GPU that came with the old CPU.

I just noticed, I was screwed over. A seller placed the Celeron G1840 in an i7 box with the i7 CPU fan, shame. Sent a £30 processor when the gift was bought for £260. Thanks anyway!

Believe its amazons fault, asked for a replacement, seems from internet searching they seem to be packaging the wrong processor in the 4790k box somehow

box did look slightly tatty too, however was factory sealed and what not. Might be the issue, nothing else attempted suggests its the correct cpu.

You likely had the same issue as me, I'm getting a replacement. The seller seemed confused so it could have just been a mess up in packaging, and I doubt it's a coincidence you had the same processor switched!
