External HDD Problem

Hello guys and girls,
I have a WD My passport 500 gb Ext.HDD and I used to use it oftenly. Suddenly one day I power up my pc ( The harddrive was plugged in) and my Pc started being slow and my external hard drive would not show up. When I unplugged the external hard drive my pc was as fast as normal. Till now my PC cant recognize my ext hdd. Any solutions?

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
Is the drive even powering up? How it is recognized by Disk Management?

One thing you can try is to attach the drive with a different USB cable to another USB port. I guess you can even attach it to another system.
In case the issue persists, you can boot up Ubuntu from a CD or a flash drive and try to access the drive. In case you can do that, you need to back up the data stored on it. Check this out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode

After that, you can test the drive with WD's DLG tool(both short and extended tests): http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=oN45nv
