With a new R9 270 (OEM Card) installed, the boot process is long - approximately 5 minutes

Post/Boot appears to be moving in slow motion, not hanging up on something. For example when it gets to the OS boot selection screen it prints it out very slowly almost one letter at a time. Displays black screen for about a minute before showing mobo's logo.

Have not tried letting it go past that as I was afraid of letting it continue. Is it safe to let it try to boot while behaving so strangely?

  • - Bios is updated to most recent version

    - When new GPU is installed the same issue exists with onboard video output

    - Unplugging the card's 6-pin makes everything function as normal

    - Putting old card back in also works as normal

    - PSU should be sufficient according to both requirement listings and calculator sites

    - Upgrading from 5770 to R9 270

Have never seen an issue like this before and don't know what could be causing the slow motion post/boot sequence

Thank you so much for any advice you can offer! Kind of scared to proceed given I am unfamiliar with the issue.

Board: Gigabyte Z97-MX Gaming 5
CPU: i5-4690K Haswell
PSU: 450W Antec Basiq
Old GPU : Radeon HD 5770
New GPU: Radeon R9 270
OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I let it boot slowly into Windows and installed the card's drivers, then slow booted again into windows, and get sluggish performance - the drivers appear to have installed correctly but videos are choppy and FPS is ~2 at most

Also, with the GPU installed, even the BIOS Uefi screen displays in slow motion, slowly drawing to screen like a powerpoint presentation

Everything is 100% fine without a video card AND with the older one
