I'm upgrading my CPU for my motherboard (asus B85M-G) and was wondering about whether it was a 1150 so I could buy one. Any help appreciated! :)

Yup, but you won't be able to overclock. In addition, the newer 4790k is marginally better so get that rather than this, unless you've found this significantly cheaper (IMHO $20+).

if you don't care to overclock but want something with hyper threading look at the xeon chip there supported save over a i7 and could be just as happy [you will eed a vid card with a xeon . no on chip graphics ]

''the newer 4790k is marginally ''??

more power use 88w over 80/84w runs hotter overall and never really see it everyday use - it will come down to what has the lowest price when you go to buy

then what chip works out of the box with out needing to flash ?? the 4770 may work on first release but the refresh may need a later bios with that you buy a board that shipped with a first releas bios on it and a chip that needs a later bios then what ??

well now your stuck

lots to look at when choosing a chip unless its all ready up and running so you can flash if needed

one thing that concerns me on that board he wants or got is 24 bios updates for it ?? makes me wonder how unstable it really is needing so many ??

good luck
