Hi everyone,
I got a new set of ram yesterday, 2x8gb corsair vengeance, but I seem to have a problem with them.
I initially tried plugging both sticks in at once, in the configuration recommended by my motherboard and this was leading to failures during startup. Specifically the boot was getting to 'northbridge early start' and then freezing, according to the debug readout. So no visual output on the monitor etc.
I then tried only one stick at a time and the pc booted without an issue. I took out this working new stick and put in the other new one (same socket) and this time the pc was starting, getting to a point in the boot and then shutting down automatically (and continually cycling through this until I manually shutdown). Reverting to the other new stick caused an error-free boot.
It's worth noting that my old ram still works too.
I've tried switching which ram socket the possibly faulty ram is in and still get the same issue. I think my best bet is to return this to the vendor for a replacement but I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything before I did.
Is returning the best option?
Merry Christmas.
Many thanks,
Tom.
