Hi Everyone!

I'm currently in the process of building my latest PC, and I've got nearly every component except for the RAM as I've had a last minute moment of indecision.

So far I had locked in G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4-2133, however my Motherboard (Gigabyte X99 SOC Force) has 8 slots. Am I better off looking into an 8x8GB set instead? I have no idea what the advantages and disadvantages of either would be and the information I've found on the internet so far has been quite conflicting.

Also, as RAM is extremely important to what I do I was looking for a higher speed RAM, but my processor (Intel i7 Extreme 5960x) says max memory speed supported is 2133.. I haven't found any i7s that support faster RAM.. do these CPUs actually recognize and use faster RAM than this?

Cheers,
Kaine

I'd go 4x16, because quad channel RAM is the highest possible at the moment if i remember correctly. There won't be any speed differences if you get more sticks of RAM.

Also you can get higher than 2133Mhz RAM. 2133 is the entry speed of RAM with X99 boards and the 5960x should support 2400Mhz stock and up to 3000Mhz with some OC. :)

But i'm not an expert when it comes to these RAM amounts better wait for someone else to answer too. :p

Thanks for the reply!

I also was just doing some research on the faster speeds looking at the Corsair 64GB (4x16G) CMK64GX4M4B3000C15 DDR4 3200MHz Vengeance LP set, and it says I can enable the XMP 2.0 profile in the BIOS which will automatically overclock it to these speeds so I think I'm going to go for this. THanks for the advice on the sticks!
