How to apply thermal paste

I am applying thermal paste for the first time on my cpu. I have already removed the stock paste from my nzxt kraken x41, but I dont know if there is a stock cooler also on my cpu that I need to remove before applying (my cpu is the intel i7-4790k). Anyone knows?
P.s. I use 99% rubbing alcohol to remove

The new factory Intel CPU Heat Sink has thermal paste already applied. The CPU its self does not have thermal paste on it.

One method is to place a small dab in the center of the processor in the shape of a small pea and the place the heat sink onto the CPU. Other methods I've heard of include creating a small very thin line on thermal paste down the middle of the CPU. Another method involves applying the thermal paste in a small quantity and then spreading the material by hand using a item such as a square piece of plastic.

I recommend looking for videos on you tube to see how its done.
