My new fresh out the box r9 280x is having stuttering problems. It's very evident in csgo and gta v is unplayable even on low settings. Just cause 3 will run great for five minutes and then the stuttering hits. I'm thinking it might be thermal throttling, but the hottest I've seen the card get is 80, and it's supposed to throttle at 85. The stuttering wasn't there when I first installed the card but after a few hours, I had problems.

What monitor are you using? Is it a 144hz or more? Does is use free sync? That stuttering is one of tht reasons they came up with free sync, for the monitors that use higher refresh rates while gaming.

The r9 280x does not support freesync.

I'm currently using 75 hz, maybe lowering it to 60 will work
EDIT : nothing changed, it still stutters

also install msi afterburner and turn on temp monitoring of the cpu and gpu in the OSD

play a game, what are the max temps you hit?

Full specs:

PSU : 600 watt EVGA 80+ certified
Mobo : Some asrock motherboard (I have no idea what the model number is)
GPU : r9 280x
CPU : fx 8300
Hard drive : Western Digital Blue 1 tb

The temps used to go to 86c/normal temperatures and I thought that 86c was a bit high so I opened up the case and then came the stuttering. I found that weird because opening a case doesn't cause stuttering, that's not normal. The temps now go to only 60-70c while playing so I thought that maybe the card started to thermal throttle. I have no idea, I just need this fixed

those temps are high

sounds like you might have knocked the cpu cooler loose or something

are you monitoring cpu temps? are the fans spinning on the cpu cooler?

Temperatures are fine right now, the only thing that's wrong is the gpu performance. The cpu is fine, the coolers not loose, everythings spinning. I just installed this graphics card, everything was fine when I was using my GTX 650, so I highly doubt it's anything with the cpu
