Best CPU/Motherboard Combo for 250$

A friend of mine is looking to replace the CPU and motherboard in his system. He has a budget of around 250-270$ and would like to get the best performance he can obviously. He'd also like to keep his RAM (3 sticks of DDR3, 4GB each). I haven't looked for hardware myself for quite a while so I'd be thankful for some recommendations.

i5-5500 with an Asus H110m-A D3 $258 the ddr4 version mobo is $10 cheaper.

actually he cant keep his ram bc its prob 1.5 volt and all the new mobos support DDR3 1.35v or DDR4.
its only $40 for 1x 8gb stick. look under the sofa for a bit of loose change

Thanks for your reply. I can't find the CPU anywhere though. Only the u-version for Laptops.
