Hello, I have/had 2 sticks of 4gb ballistix sport DDR3 RAM in my PC. I have upgraded and got 2 sticks of 8gh of the same sticks. When I put just the 8gb it works and when I put just the 4gbs it works but when I put the 8gbs in with the 4gbs it has power but just does a cycle of what seems to be attempting to boot up but it fails and tries again.
I have made sure to put the 8gbs in spots 1 and 2 and the 4gbs in 3 and 4.
I have a Gigabyte z97 sli and it says it can support up to 32gbs. I have also made you to blow the dust away and make sure they are clipped it well.
Any help is definitely appreciated! Thanks

Also if this isn't the right section please let me know.

Solution
I would put the new kit in slots 1 and 3 and the old kit in slots 2 and 4.

You can also try resetting the CMOS (pull the battery on the motherboard for 30 seconds and replacing) with both kits installed.

If it doesn't work, then the two sets just don't play well together. One set might just be different enough from the other that the mobo can't sort it out.

Reset bios then
Channel 1 : 1 dimm of 8 + 1 dimm of 4
channel 2 : 1 dimm of 8 + 1 dimm of 4

There can be tons of problems when mixing memory so solutions usually require some solid knowledge of ram settings.
First do a bios reset and then you can try placing the memory gradually 1 by 1 and boot after each dimm is inserted. Bad news is sometimes no amount of tweaking can fix ram incompatibility.

Thanks for the replies! You both had the solution. I put 1 stick of 8gb in slot 1 and 3 and then the sticks of 4gb in 2 and 4. I feel kinda dumb I didn't try that but everything I read said the highest go in 1 and 2. Thanks again for the quick replies!
