ASUS VG248QE monitor will not display 144Hz as a display option

I recently got a new monitor, and I attempted to enable 144HZ as the refresh rate through the Windows display settings. It did not display 144Hz as an option. I then checked my AMD menu's settings, and 144HZ was not displayed as an option there, either. I am using an HDMI cable that claims to be capable of 240Hz refresh rates, as the DVI cable that came with the monitor was not long enough.

Radeon R9 270X GPU
Windows 10 OS

Use your video card settings to set the refresh rate. I use an Nvidia card and it's called
"Nvidia Control Panel". I believe AMD/Radeon has a similar program.

For 144Hz you'll need to use Display Port.
