I think I know the answer but just checking anyway.

I've got an 8 pin VGA/PCIe output (EVGA 1300 G2) (4*12v/4*gnd) that needs to go to an ASUS X99M WS EATX 6-pin (3*12v/3*gnd) for extra card support.

My 8 pin/6+2 pin power cable should do the trick if I cut off or tie off the dangling 2-pin, correct? I'm electrically inclined but just wanted to check since the wires are all black.

That motherboard also has two 8 pin EATX ports. I know you can buy an adapter for 8 pin PCIe to 8 pin EATX. I looked through the user's manual and it definitely does not make it clear when to use the single EATX, the second EATX or the 6 pint EATX. I would think you could use either the 6 or 8 pin secondary power plug.

Well...I think you're correct. The myriad of cables that came with the power supply include two (4+4 to 8 pin) cables that fit the 8 pin EATX connector (for the CPU) on the board and two ( 6+2 to 8 pin) that fit the 6 pin EATX connector on the board for card support, if I let the +2 dangle. PCIe and EATX are a standard 12v and ground pin placement so it should work if the +2 dangles. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks.
