First, I'll just post this link with the pictures that accompany the post >here<.

So, I installed a new 970 and right underneath of it was my existing sound card. My original question was going to be if it would be alright to keep them that close or if it would disrupt the airflow too much. Once I tried it out, I realized the sound card was stopping the middle fan from spinning and took it out immediately. The card runs fine now but I would really like to keep that sound card in the system but from what I can tell there's not another place for it to hook up. If I could keep the GPU from sagging so much, could I keep the sound card in the same spot? Or is it possible to place it somewhere else on the MOBO that I'm not seeing? The inside of the case always keeps cool and it's in the basement which is always cool to begin with. While running Fallout 4, the GPU temp is around 46 Degrees Celcius and 36 while idle. Is there a way to keep the video card from sagging so much and keep it off the sound card?

My second question. The GPU takes 2 8-pin connections. I'm not very experienced in hardware, but the 2 6-pin connectors I had for my 760 have a 2-pin addition on each 6-pin. I'm assuming you can use these to make it an 8-pin, but is it safe to use for both 8-pins? The card seems to be running fine but is it getting a good supply of power using this method?

Hardware
Gigabyte GTX 970 XTREME Gaming 4GB
Sound Blaster Z (PCIe x1)
Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3
Corsair TX850

Solution
You should be fine with plugging the sound card into the second pcie x16 slot.
Your motherboard's specs states that for the 2nd pcie x16 slot:
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
* The PCIEX4 slot shares bandwidth with all PCI Express x1 slots. All PCI Express x1 slots will become unavailable when a PCIe x4 expansion card is installed.
* When installing a x8 or above card in the PCIEX4 slot, make sure to set PCIE Slot Configuration in BIOS Setup to x4.

This should allow you to not affect the 16 pcie cpu lanes to your gpu.
