I have a dell precision 490 and I want to use everything in it but upgrade the motherboard so I can get a more modern cpu in it. I'm trying to make this thing play games fairly well while also being able to do some heavy work loads so I'm looking at a new intel core i7 maybe or even an amd fx cpu. Would I be able to replace the motherboard in the computer with a compatible motherboard for these two cpu's?
Another question I have is can I use the stock 750W dell psu and also the 32GB of RAM on another more modern motherboard?

The dell Precision 490 is the BTX format computer, so you can't replace its MB only, because other format MB will not fit at all. Also the PSU may be the BTX format too, because dell don't list that, only said the case/MB is the BTX, but I think the PSU should be same too.
If you are looking for the new MB and i7, then the DDR2 RAM will be not compatible to the new i7, even the amd fx cpu too. So just forget about the MB, case, PSU, RAM, if you want build the new pc.
