Would it be worth saving up for the Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 or settling for the Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Edition?

I have been saving up for a while and decided to buy a new GPU. I saw good reviews for the G1 Gaming Edition but looking at the 980 edition it was something that was out of my limit. I was thinking about settling for the 970 version when I saw the Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Edition on ebuyer for £370, What should I focus on?

Not a problem buddy. Glad I could help on this. The 970 is a great card and the G1 was only trumped in my decision making by price at the time of buying. You seem to play a similar list of games to myself so I can wholeheartedly recommend it. GTA5 looks great, Battlefield 4 is smooth as butter and good old counterstrike gets laughed at (CS:S and GO). Save that cash bud for that pretty viewing portal and you will be smiling from ear to ear before you know it :D

Hi Techsparrow

If you have been saving up and cash is not something that you are blessed with then I personally cannot look any further than the 970. I do not think that the additional cash requirement between the the 970 and 980 warrants the extra outlay. I have recently upgraded to the MSI 970 Gaming Edition and at 1080p / 1440p it is fantastic. As with the G1 it comes overclocked out of the box with extra headroom for an additional overclock if required so there is still room for improvement if required.

Do you have any information in regards to what games / resolution you will be gaming out as it may assist in making the assistance more bespoke?

Hi MemoFlex,

Thanks for the advice! I think I will take your advice and settle for the 970 and put the spare money towards a new monitor.

In answer to your question I often play games such as Gta V, Battlefield 4, Counter strike and other fairly demanding games, As for my resolution I have my screen resolution at 1440 x 900 which I just keep graphics at mid settings due to the fact that I'm currently using the built in graphics from my MSI Z87 - GD65 Gaming motherboard which handles graphics surprisingly well :)
