Hey guys so today is Boxing Day in Canada so I picked myself up a nice Corsair H60 CPU cooler
and what I wanted to know is, how well/much can I overclock my cpu with this set up? Also my Idle temps are now 21-27 degrees celsius and 40 degrees while gaming (GTA V)

CPU- FX 8320
Cooler- H60 (push/pull)
Motherboard- M5A99X Evo R2.0
Ram- Kingston HyperX 2x4 GB
Power Supply- EVGA 600B 600w

Could I get to like 4.5 Ghz on my cpu? What is the Max OC?

Solution
Often the CPU itself, each CPU is individual, Asus did some interesting testing awhile back

next would be the mobo, PSU can play in but shouldn't here, you have a good one and even if you got a 390, you still be good with the EVGA 600, no need at all for a 800, that's way overkill, the cooler will be fine (was suggesting better and lower cost options)

oh yeah you can push that CPU upto 4.5ghz easy, there is no max overclock, for you it might be 4ghz, depends if its stays stable or not.

If you use liquid nitrogen you can over clock to 6ghz.

the FX 8370 holds the world record of 8.7ghz with liquid nitrogen.

Every processor overclocks differently. To say yea you can hit 4.5Ghz without issue isn't possible. It all depends how you did in the chip lottery. Some FX 8320s have a hard time getting over 4.2Ghz others have hit 5Ghz, it all depends on you particular chip. With that said you have the supporting hardware to hit 4.5Ghz if your processor did well in the chip lottery.

Overclocking all depends on binning. The best binned FX processors are made into FX 8370 and FX 9xxx series. The processors that are of lower binning are made into FX 8350, the processors that binned under that (the lowest binning) are made into FX 8320. That's not to say that there aren't some jewels that have good binning among the FX 8320, but they are much more rare than they use to be. As a rule the FX 8350 will overclock better than the 8320 and the FX 8370 will overclock the best (I've hit 5.5Ghz @ 1.55Vcore with my 8370).

FX 8320s I have worked with have overclocked to anywhere between 4.2Ghz and 5.0Ghz, there is no way to tell you how your particular processor will overclock.

+1 And with your cooler I wouldn't expect real high, for AMD I would go with a 212 EVO or a H& from Cryorig for better cooling at a much better price, it takes a H100 to top those cooling wise. Have run numerous coolers on my 8370 rig

Well the store that I went to sold out of the 212 evo because the sales were too good. So I chose between the Hyper T4, and the H60. Also, isnt the H60 liquid cooler as good, or even slightly better than the 212 at cooling?

Hyper 212 EVO is the best budget cooler there is even outperforming more expensive after market coolers. Its performance is even more impressive when you add a second fan in a push pull configuration:D

Well on Saturday (boxing day) when I was buying a cooler, the 212 was sold out (not surprising), so I was basically left choosing between the hyper T4, H60 and other way more expensive liquid coolers, some even reaching $200 with multi colour lighting. Plus the H60 was $20 off

You should still be able to get a reasonable overclock (depending on how you did in the chip lottery) with the H60. You will probably hit somewhere between 4.2 and 4.4Ghz with your hardware, but you may be able to get it to 4.5Ghz as well. Really even with a Hyper 212 EVO you would probably hit 4.5Ghz max with your supporting hardware.

What part of the system do you think is holding the OC potential back? I know the power supply is probably it, but is the motherboard good enough to achieve higher numbers?

It is hard to say what can hold an overclock back. I can tell you your motherboard isn't the best overclcoker, and for overclocking FX 8 core CPUs I like to make sure there is at least a 800W 80+ Gold psu (because you never know when someone is going to add a R9 390 on top of overclocked FX 8 core processor). Does that mean you should run out and get a new motherboard? NO. You could get a 4.4Ghz overclock on your rig as is and if I tried hooking it to my rig I might find out that I can only get 4.5Ghz out of it (I have 1000W 80+ Gold psu and Sabertooth 990FX). It all depends on the chip lottery. Most FX 8320s right now overclock to between 4.2 - 4.5Ghz, some do better but on average that is what your looking at because the better binned chips were pushed to FX 8350+. Once you hit the wall no matter what supporting hardware you have your not going to go beyond the wall.

Really your psu and motherboard aren't great overclockers, but even if you got top of the line motherboard (like the Asus Sabertooth 990FX) and a 1000W 80+ Gold psu you may only get an additional 100 - 200 Mhz out of it (depending on the chip lottery) and that investment just wouldn't warrant only getting an additional ~ 200Mhz. If you had a FX 8370 or something like that I would say sure you can upgrade your motherboard and psu and you will hit over 5Ghz, but with the FX 8320 your whole overclock is dependent on how you did in the chip lottery.

My bad, been following several different threads and for some reason thought his psu was a 500W generic. I tend to put 800W psu in custom computers I build for people with FX 8 core processors because just about all of them will overclock at some point and a lot will add heavy GPU(s) later on. 800W 80+ Gold gives A LOT of overhead and I never have to have someone complain about me giving them an under powered psu
