I am upgrading my CPU, Motherboard, and GPU.

Current Specs:
MB: GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P
Case: Antec NSK4100
PSU: Corsair CX500W
GPU: MSI R9 270X Gaming
CPU: AMD FX-6300

Upgrading to:
MB: ASRock B85 Pro4 ATX LGA1150
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 970 STRIX
CPU: Intel i5-4690k

The graphics card I am upgrading to says it needs an 8 pin connector or something on NewEgg and my PSU says it has 6+4 pin connector. So basically I just really need someone to clarify what the connection is between the PSU and the GPU and Motherboard. Thanks!

There is no 6+4. There is a 4+4 that goes to the motherboard. There is also a 6+2 that can be used as an 8pin plug for GPUs.

In general I'd say if your PSU has the native plugs that your GPU needs then you are fine. In your case that should apply, but don't OC anything. Your system should draw ~300W and that's the upper edge of what your PSU can handle.

The CX is junk quality, even if it had 8 pin

Junk? Junk are those units in the Death of a gutless wonder series. Go look those up if you want to see junk. Those do damage as they fail. I just looked at JG. There are three reviews for CX PSUs from Corsair. V1 and 2 of the CX430 which passed with scores of 9 for each. And the CX750 which is regarded as one of the...

You want a PSU that has 8 pin connectors. you can get adapters but 6 pin only outputs 75w, 8pin gives 150w. The card needs 145w

Id up the PSU with a tier 1 or 2 550-650w one from the stickied tier list at the top of the forum. The CX is junk quality, even if it had 8 pin

That review was doing fine until the last stage in the hotbox where it SHUT DOWN. It didn't explode. No puff of white smoke when it gave up the ghost. It's OTP kicked in and it shut down. In Corsairs (lame?) defense it was running a full 12C hotter then they rated it for. Though I'd never buy a PSU with a 30C rating. I have never read a review where a CX PSU comes across as "junk". They aren't fancy. They aren't high end. They aren't even the best choice all the time. But junk? They aren't that either.
