What to do: AMD FX-4100 potentially bottle-necking a GTX 970

Starting a bit ago, I've been set on getting a GTX 970 for my computer. I wanted something that could handle most of the things I would throw at it on a 1080p gaming system. In this pursuit, though, my brother had informed me of a potential bottle-neck with my CPU (an AMD 4100) and this new graphics card. So, my question is this: do I need to replace this CPU with something better to make it work well with the GTX 970, and, if so, what should I replace it with? I've been told that motherboards can limit you only to specific CPUs, so I'd like to find a solution to work with mine because this gets expensive. And I do not have an infinite budget.

System Specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: GA-78LMT-S2
BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8174MB RAM

Of course, thank you very much for the help.

Your Motherboard can support upto FX-8300

Your current FX-4100 will bottleneck the gtx970 some in heavy cpu based games or games that rely on a strong single core performance but not drastically. Also so games are not as optimized for FX's chips as they are intel.

However with that said most games will not show much of a performance hit, as long as your not trying to max out GTA 5 or the likes. The FX-6300 is a good upgrade solution that overclock easily to 4.5ghz and keeps cool with it being 95watt. Plus you can typically find them ons ale for under $100. For gaming you wont see much of a difference between the 6300 and 8300 chips unless your streaming or rendering.

Sorry for not replying for a while. I looked up the things that you had suggested, and that seems like a very viable solution. Thank you for the response.
