Memory Upgrade recommendation for Inspiron 15R(5520)

Hi Gurus,

My system specs are outlined below.

Model:- Dell Inspiron 15R 5520
Existing RAM:- 8GB(4GBx2) PC3-12800S-11-11-F3
CPU:- Intel i7-3632QM@2.20GHz
Chipset:- PCH HM77

I am planning to upgrade it to 16GB RAM and left with two questions after researching Crucial scan tools and several Online resources.

1) Few reported the performance will become worse with 16GB? Has any one used and provide insight on the performance with 16GB?

2) Will crucial suggested DDR3L-1866 SODIMM RAM be compatiable with my laptop? As everywhere I see only upto 1600Mhz speed is allowed on my laptop.

Crucial.com mentioned 16GB is allowed for my model but not officially supported by Dell and also few people mentioned in several threads of DELL support site that they upgraded but faced worst performance than 8GB memory. I would like to know any inputs on the performance with 16B upgrade?

Here's your best bet IMO, purchase this Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3-1866 SODIMM through Crucial (not a retail store). Doing that, Crucial will guarantee proper operation and compatibility. Any problems related to the ram, they'll work with you to get them solved.
I have also read that flashing to the latest BIOS version helps with 16GB support
