The ssd drives are thinner than the old style spinning platter based mechanical drives. I kept inserting the new ssd drive and kept missing the connector totally. Some drives come with a shim. Even without the shim you can sort of get it in place by using a piece of scotch tape and hanging the drive and finding the slot correctly while the laptop is propped on it's back edge at 90 degrees from your table surface or lap. I thought I would share my own success story to benefit some readers with the same issue.
